Places to buy cheap winter clothes

Places to buy cheap winter clothes : November 19, 2009

Winter is upon us, and with it the need to buy warmer clothes, especially for kids who have grown a bit more than expected over the summer. Buying inexpensive winter clothes is not as difficult as one would think, providing you know where to look.

*Walmart: Walmart has a decent selection of Hanes plain sweats for men, women, and children. It's tucked away beyond the more expensive sweat suits. You can ask the sales clerk where to find sweats on sale, and she may smile and tell you there aren't any. That's because Hanes plain sweats are not on sale. They're regular price is only around $5 per crew neck sweat shirt, or for a pair of sweat pants. These sweat suits come in several colors, and right nearby are some Hanes plain long sleeve t-shirts that costs only about $6 each. Prices and availability may vary depending on where you live.

*Garage sales: You will find some great bargains on winter coats at garage sales this time of year. People who host garage sales are looking to earn some extra cash, so they usually put out things they think will sell quickly, and winter coats when it's cold just happens to be one of those items. Many times people having garage sales offer children's jackets that are hardly used. Kids outgrow their clothes so fast sometimes that a lot of their winter clothes remain looking almost new.

*Thrift stores: People often give seasonally appropriate items to thrift stores because it's their way of being charitable. Some of them even purchase new things to donate to specific causes. Society is well aware of the need for warm winter clothes, and people who can afford it are very generous with their donations to thrift stores.

*Outlet and retail stores: If you live near an outlet store, check out last year's stock. They need to get rid of it to make more room for this year's clothing. Do the same thing with retail stores. Find the rack in the back corner of the store that has all the best deals. You may have to do some digging, but there's a reasonable chance you will find something there if you look hard enough.

You may also want to check out retail stores that cater to limited budgets. Among these are Burlington Coat Factory, Ross, Target, and Marshall's. Most retail stores sell things online, and some of them offer extra discounts when you purchase through the internet, instead of going in person. Watch the shipping costs and make sure there are no hidden fees before finalizing your purchase if you shop online though.

*If all else fails: Plan on layering your current clothing and only adding a few new things to your wardrobe. Wear a lot of hats and scarves to keep your head and neck warm. Then snuggle under blankets when you hang out at home. If you like to crochet or knit, you can make your own scarves and hats fairly quickly, and it doesn't cost a lot to do that at all. The goal is to keep warm for the winter, and you really do have more than a few options to do so.
